2008-08-12 - Updated through online information from Michael J Smith. -- It's in fine shape. Winding has been electrified and somebody (Andover?) has fitted some of the ranks with shiny new tuning slides, but otherwise it appears original. -Database Manager
2014-02-24 - Updated through online information from John Igoe. -- Renovated by Andover. -Database Manager
2022-09-09 - **From the *1992 OHS Handbook*:** The organ, the gift of Charles Perkins Glidden in memory of Mary S. Glidden, was installed in 1888 at a cost of $1,885 exclusive of the handsome Gothic casework, which was almost certainly designed by Henry Vaughan. The radiating and concave pedalboard is not original; neither are the pipes of the Oboe 8'. Renovation of the instrument is planned for the near future. -Paul R. Marchesano

Newcastle, Maine St. Andrew's Episcopal 1888 Hutchings Stoplist Great -- Open Diapason 8 Melodia 8 Dolcissima 8 Octave 4 Flute d'Amour 4 Twelfth 2-2/3 Fifteenth 2 Trumpet 8 Swell -- Bourdon Treble(*) 16 Open Diapason 8 Salicional 8 Stop'd Diapason 8 Flute Harmonique 4 Violina 4 Flautino 2 Oboe 8 (*) I don't know what this stop name is supposed to mean. It's a substantial 16' Bourdon that runs right through the compass. Does not appear to share pipes with the Pedal 16. Pedal -- Bourdon 16 Couplers: Sw -> Gt Sw -> Ped Gt -> Ped The manuals couple through -- i.e. if you have Gt->Ped and Sw->Gt you effectively have Sw->Ped too. Mechanisms, operated by foot pedals: Sw->Gt superoctave (hitchdown) Gt->Ped (reversible) Tremulant (whole instrument) -- hitchdown Combinations (foot pedals, L to R) I -- Retires all engaged Sw stops except Stop'd Diapason and Flute Harmonique II -- Enagages all Sw stops III -- Retires all engaged Gt stops except Melodia and Flute d'Amour IV -- Engages Gt Open 8, Melodia, Octave, Flute d'Amour, Twelfth, and Fifteenth. It's quite a splendid assertive instrument in a small but nice live space. [Received on line from Michael J. Smith, August 11, 2008]
