2018-06-06 - The immense church was badly damaged when a fire started high in the 259' (79m) steeple on 12 September 1971; the tower and its huge bells collapsed into the rear of the church, doing serious, but not irreparable, damage; due to the changing neighborhood and declining membership, it was realized that there would not be enough financial support to rebuild the 3,100-seat church; it was demolished in early 1972. -Database Manager
