2022-09-08 - **From the *1992 OHS Handbook*:** In 1860, the 1831 Auburn meetinghouse (which was to survive in remodelled form until 1948) was replaced with a substantial new frame church on High Street, and the church changed its name to High Street Congregational Church. The new building was dedicated 19 April 1860. "When the time arrived that an organ was required for the new meeting-house, the ladies of the church and parish purchased II. [They] undertook to raise $900 for the purchase of an organ provided the gentlemen would raise $350 ... " The organ was an E. & G. G. Hook, Op. 274, 1860, "2-23", located In a large alcove at the rear of the interior. ... In January 1878, a new organ was installed behind the pulpit; the records so far have not revealed what became of the 1860 Hook. -Paul R. Marchesano
