2011-03-09 - Updated through on-line information from Doug Ulwick. -- I have a copy of a 1911 report from the church that says it was installed by Hook and Hastings. The Abington Church had entered into discussion with H&H for a new instrument, but instead came away with the Hutchings from West Newon, MA where H&H was installing a new instrument. Don't know how mush space I have here, but here's the relevant paragraph: <br>"Correspondence of a personal character having passed between Mr. O-Brien and the Hook & Hastings Co. and specifications submitted for a new instrument, through Mr. Alfred. R. Pratt, formerly of this town, now Superintendent of the above Organ Co. A suggestion from Mr. Pratt that an organ of the Hutchings make now installed in the Unitarian Church at West Newton was to be replaced by a new instrument, the gift of a wealthy parishioner, and recommending the present one for consideration, a committee was appointed to look into the matter and report at a later meeting... ....The Hook & Hastings Company agreed to install this instrument in our church in first class condition with new electric motor for power, for the sum of $2,000 to be thoroughly tested by an expert before accepting it, and after consideration it was voted to purchase it."<br> -Database Manager
