2024-11-07 - According to a June 13, 2012 online article in the [Northbridge] Telegram & Gazette, "Declining membership at the town's first church founded in 1782 forced a merger with the Rockdale Congregational Church. About 150 people attended an emotional last service at the church a little more than a year ago, on June 5, 2011." "James M. Knott Sr. liked the former Northbridge Centre Congregational Church at the top of Hill Street so much he bought it. Mr. Knott, owner of Riverdale Mills Corp., bought the church for $200,000 and plans to convert the building into two apartments." "The former church still contains an organ and pipes and Mr. Knott is looking for somebody who would be interested in taking them. The Governor's Academy in Byfield, which was known as the Governor Dummer Academy when Mr. Knott graduated from there, told him they don't have room for the organ system. He said yesterday he would sell it to a vendor but could give it to a charity if one contacted him." -Jim Stettner
