2016-09-12 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. Identified by Steve Bartley, using information found in *Baltimore Sun* Paper, 8/2/1854 pg4 & 8/15/1854 pg1. *Baltimore Sun* Paper Aug 2 1854. This was for the building previous to the present building on E street SW. Messers. Pomplitz and Rodewald, organ builders, of Baltimore, Have just closed, through their agents, Hilbus & Hitz, a contract to build an organ for St. Dominic's Catholic Church, on the island. The organ will be 11 feet high, 7 feet front, and 4 feet deep, with a keyboard extended in the front, to enable the organist to face the altar while performing. *Baltimore Sun* Paper Aug 15, 1854 as part of more lengthy article about Pomplitz & Rodewald. "...A fourth instrument for the St. Dominican Church of Washington City, which will contain eight stops, combining the principal and most popular band instruments, with violoncello, violin, &c. The case will be in the gothic style of architecture, 11 feet high, 7 feet wide, and 4 feet deep." -Database Manager
