Notes

2016-09-26 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. Identified by William Dunklin, using information found in a vintage postcard. <br>A vintage postcard shows a pipe organ standing to the left of the chancel. The building has a complex history. Built in 1868 as St. Mark's Episcopal and located in the village of North Tarrytown (within the city of Mount Pleasant), the congregation was also known as The Memorial Church of Washington Irving. In 1951 St. Mark's closed and merged with Christ Episcopal in Tarrytown. In 1957 the building became Immaculate Conception, Roman Catholic. In 1996 the village of North Tarrytown changed its name to Sleepy Hollow. Comparing the historic photograph of Washington Memorial Church, Tarrytown NY and Immaculate Conception Church, Sleepy Hollow NY show they are the same building, but with obvious changes including the removal of the organ from its Anglican position adjacent to the chancel. Fate of the organ is unknown. -Database Manager
