2022-11-21 - THE KOPPEJAN PIPE ORGAN In the summer of 1992 the Building & Development Committee chose the architectural firm of "Killick, Metz, Bowen & Rose" to give expression to the faith of the people of Star of the Sea Parish. The result was Good Shepherd Church, a magnificent structure that will demonstrate to all, in the decades to come, the strength and faith of past and future generations of Catholics in White Rock and South Surrey. The church building does indeed inspire a desire to give voice to the Faith, and Vern Hoing, Karel ten Hoope and others felt a deep need that a pipe organ be chosen that would fulfill such a desire. A generous offer from the Hoing Family enabled the commissioning of the firm Adrian Koppejan Pipe Organs to build a three-manual pipe organ. The new pipe organ of Good Shepherd Church was built over the last twelve months by Koppejan Pipe Organs of Chilliwack, British Columbia. In early 1992 Mr. Vern Hoing first inquired about the possibility of a pipe organ for this parish. Initially, Mr. Hoing considered a 2- manual instrument, but after more discussion he decided to donate a new 3- manual organ. The facade of the organ was designed by the architectural team of Norm and Jacqui Metz, while the console and organ were designed by the builder, Adrian Koppejan. The new organ has 31 stops, 38 ranks, and 1933 pipes. The beautiful oak console has 3 manuals of 61 notes and a pedalboard of 32 notes. The console is an electrical system; the windchests are slider chests. This console has: • Draw-knob stop action • Combination action with memory • General pistons • Built in MIDI system • Adjustable bench • Crescendo pedal • Swell pedal -Michael Dirk
