2023-05-05 - Franklin MacVeagh (1837–1934) was a Chicago grocer, lawyer, and banker who served as Secretary of the Treasury during the administration of William Howard Taft (1909–1913). *The Diapason* ("Plays at Mac Veagh Residence," *The Diapason*, March 1911, [2]), reported a recital at the opening of the house: "Frank Taft, art director of the Aeolian company's pipe organ department in New York, gave a recital on a magnificent organ just installed at the new Washington home of Franklin MacVeagh, secretary of the treasury. Mr. Taft played on the occasion of the opening of the house, which is one of the largest at the nation's capital." For more on the organ, see Rollin Smith, *The Aeolian Pipe Organ and Its Music*, 2nd ed. (Villanova, PA: OHS Press, 2018), 360 (with statement "Extant"). -Charles Eberline
