2016-12-26 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. Identified by J. A. Hefner, using information from this web site: http://www.theatreorgans.com/AU/opus/OPUSLIST/.
This Wurlitzer organ was installed either 12 October or 10 December 1927* in the State Theater in Springfield, Ohio (the State was flagship in the Chakeres theater chain, remaining so into the 1980s). The last organist [ca. 1970s to 1990 when theater closed] mentions the organ was a 3/7, and someone who visited the theater in 1990-91 noticed that the console and several chests were all that remained, with many of the pipes and such having been parted out. On 2 June 1995, Mr Tom Smith of Dayton removed the remnants and installed them in his house, and by June 1997 he was in the process of restoring it. Its current condition is not clear.
*The theater opened in November, but the site containing update information might have the dates stored in different formats. Mr Tom Smith mentions taking the organ out on 6-2-95, presumably M/D/YY, but that update note is from June 1997, and the site stored it in DD/MM/YYYY format...inconsistency? -Database Manager
