2017-03-02 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ.
Identified by Timothy E. Conyers, citing information from this publication: "Our Special Heritage: Sesquicentennial History of Indiana Yearly Meeting of Friends (Quakers), 1821-1971" by Richard P. Ratcliff, 1970.
Page 144 of the book has a photograph of the instrument. The building was constructed in 1867 with the sanctuary on the second floor. The instrument is at the front center of the platform in a case with exposed pipe facade. The keydesk is attached and centered underneath the facade, and appears to be indented slightly into the case. The congregation disbanded in 1925 and remaining members attached to First Friends of Richmond. The old meetinghouse was purchased by the Moose Lodge and stood intact until the early 1970's. It is possible that after the church closed, part of this instrument was incorporated into either the new Moller organ at First Friends Meeting (built 1927) or the Moller organ installed at West Richmond Friends Meeting (built 1928). Further research is needed to determine this possibility. -Database Manager
