2017-04-25 - This was a rebuild and new console for 1925 Moller Op. 4129. -Database Manager
2017-10-20 - Updated by Steven Bartley, the builder.
Original Moller EP pitman action replaced with Direct Electric magnets
In the 1990s the Lewis & Hitchcock firm was hired to carry out a renovation of the mechanism and then alter/enhance the specification. Only the mechanical portion was carried out. The organ was built for this church, when the mid 19th century building was much smaller. In the 1950s a large nave was added, and the original building became the transepts. Moller was contracted to rebuild the organ and moved it to the new gallery.
As part of the Moller work only the exposed open Diapason was replaced with a new one.
The Lewis & Hitchcock design was to insert a 4 Principal, reed, and quint. After phase I was completed a change took place where the choir was moved to the floor of one transept, yet the organ & console remain in the gallery. Dissatisfaction arose with the pipe organ as choir, now some distance from the organ, experienced a delay in the sound of the organ and the organ/organ builder were blamed for this natural occurrence. -Database Manager
