The building was completed in 1927, not long after the Florida Theater was completed. It was one of the first in the area to show sound films, but the details I have are a bit confusing. Per the tour guide at the Florida Theater, the Florida was the first equipped to play sound films, but they lent their system to Riverside which actually showed the first one. Both the Florida Theater and Riverside Theater were designed by Jacksonville architect Roy Benjamin. Unfortunately, the latest renovation of the building has including hanging a large amount of sound-dampening cloth around the theater so that none of the original ornate detail is visible inside. I was only prompted to look up history of an organ being there based on a picture during the most recent renovation where the organ chambers on either side of the proscenium were visible. -Database Manager
