2017-09-08 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. Identified by Steven Bartley, citing information from this publication: *Baltimore Sun* newspaper, Jan 19, 1852, pg 4 & Jan 26, 1899 pg7 & sept 23 1912 pg8. "Church Organs - The Catholic Church, "St Charles" of Pikesville, Baltimore county. Rev. Charles I. White, D.D., Pastor, have constructed a handsome, sweet toned organ, at the factory of Mr. Henry Berger, Frederick street. The case is of Grecian style of architecture, of dark colored oak, and measures 10 feet in height, 7 feet in width, and 3-1/2 feet in deep. It contains four stops, was tried by several accomplished organists, who pronounced it a fine instrument, and well adapted to the handsome little church for which it is intended. Mr. Berger is now putting it up; it will be performed on during the service of tomorrow." The original building was replaced in 1899 with the present, larger building. No information has been found to say if the Berger organ was replaced. In 1912 an Estey Pipe organ was installed. In recent decades the Estey has been removed and replaced with a succession of electronic instruments. -Database Manager
