2017-11-13 - In 1974, Bernard Cavelier of Buffalo, New York, was contracted to clean and repair the 1927 Casavant organ (Op. 1217). Cavelier revoiced all of the pipework to balance the instrument and to take away its characteristic heaviness. The principals and mixtures were brightened up and rebalanced between the divisions. The pipe mouths were rebuilt and nicks were removed, feet were widened as well as the holes in the windchests to allow the wind to enter more freely which reduced the wind pressure by an inch. Reeds were revoiced in the Cavaillé-Coll style, scales allowing it. The swell box of the Positif division was removed. Several stops were modified and transformed. The main additions were the Cymbale III ranks in the Positif and the Fourniture IV ranks in the Pedal.<br> <br> The renewed instrument was inaugurated in a concert given by André Marchal on November 19th, 1974 as part of celebrations commemorating the tercentenary of the Québec diocese.
