2018-05-01 - The Philbrook Aeolian pipe organ was installed in the Great Hall of Villa Philbrook when the home was built in 1926-27. Pipes extend below into a lower level pipe room, and the rear of the organ console is accessed by through a decorative door from the main hallway. Originally the organ had a player mechanism that was located in the nearby Music Room. While the mechanism was disconnected and removed from the Music Room, both it and its custom-built case remain in the Philbrook collection.

Barbara Kemp Stomberg reported that her father, George Bruce Kemp, Jr., installed the instrument at Villa Philbrook, and she believed that he designed the layout for the organ as well.

In 1984, the organ was renovated by the Haggard-Cotner Organ Company of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Along with the general restoration, pipes were added to complete the blank stops on the console. From comparing the supports of the pipes, the new pipes include Vila Celeste and Viola.

The organ remains functional and is played for special events and concerts during the year. -Database Manager
