2022-02-04 - We have no evidence of any pipe organ owned by the church prior to the purchase of the two-manual J. W. Steere & Sons organ, which was contracted for on 1 7 June 1892, at a price of $2,000, and dedicated 19 July 1892 (!) with a recital presented by Henry Eyre Browne, organist of Dr. DeWitt Talmage's church in Brooklyn, New York. His program included the William Tell Overture and Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. The "Programme for the Grand Pipe Organ Concert" held 9 September of the same year featured works for organ, piano, and voice; an advertisement for Brown & Simpson pianos on the back of the printed program, sponsored by the local "General Agent," AC. Andrews, promised a copy of the song "Baby's Fast Asleep" free to anyone stopping by the warerooms, or mailed "on receipt of one cent." -- *1994 OHS Handbook* -Paul R. Marchesano
