Notes

2018-08-07 - This entry describes the removal, moving, and reinstallation of an existing organ from the church's previous edifice. This included tonal alterations to an existing organ. Identified by James R. Stettner, who has heard or played the organ. The Balcom and Vaughan opus list says this organ (which they installed in 1941) came from the Roseway Theatre in Portland. But the Puget Sound Theatre Organ Society shows that organ going to a private residence in Portland. It further shows that the Sellwood Methodist instrument came from the Alameda Theatre in Portland. -Database Manager

2022-01-19 - I called the Portland Methodist Conference headquarters in 2020, and was told that the congregation had disbanded and the building had been sold. The fate of the organ is unknown. -Jim Stettner

NOTES
This organ was originally built for Portland's Alameda Theatre.

It was installed in Sellwood Methodist's second (1907) building in 1941
by Balcom and Vaughan of Seattle, Washington. It is not known if any
tonal changes were made at this time.

In 1961 the organ was relocated to the church's 3rd building and re-
installed with extensive tonal changes. In most cases the nomenclature
on the stop tablets does not accurately correspond to the ranks of
pipes being controlled.

The Concert Flute unit is comprised of 31 stopped wood pipes; 17 open
wood pipes; 25 harmonic open wood pipes; and 42 open metal trebles.
1-12 of the Open Diapason are offset.
