2019-02-13 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. <br>Identified by Steven Bartley, citing information from this publication: Der Deutsche Correspondent, Baltimore MD 4/4/1892 pg4.<br>This church was then called Zion Evangelical Church. It was formed in 1874 and had purchased a bell and pipe organ before the building was finished. Nothing more is know about this fist instrument. The German news paper article said the Niemann organ was of 2 manuals & Pedal, water motor, contained 22 registers and had all the modern improvements. In 1948, the original building was replaced with the present Brick Tudor building, on the same site. A split case of unknown origin resides in the rear gallery. The congregation is a member of the UCC denomination, though continue to highlight their German heritage. -Database Manager
2019-05-10 - Updated by Steven Bartley, naming this as the source of information: Dr Deutsche Correspondent 4/4/1892 pg4. <br> <br>The German Newspaper gives a brief account of the organ 2 manuals, 22 registers, $2500<br>A brief history of the church, found in the Pratt Library, says that the congregation had secured a bell and pipe organ before the 1st building was completed (2nd half of 19th century). This building was demolished along with its neighboring Sunday School building in the 1950s, both being replace with new structures. The congregation closed, late 2018, but their web site showed a twin case organ in the rear gallery, on either side of a large window. Nothing is known of the maker of this instrument, or if the Niemann was used in it. -Database Manager
