2019-07-23 - This entry describes an original installation of a new pipe organ. <br>Identified by Steven Bartley, citing information from this publication: Der Deutsche Correspondent Sept 11, 1874 pg4.<br>Schoemaker (various spellings) worked for August Pomplitz, until Pompliz's<br> death Feb 1974. With in the same week of Pomplitz death, Schoemacher places an advert in the Der Deutsche Newspaper that he has secured the contract for the St. Michael's organ. In other newspaper accounts Schoemacher indicates he was the one to have taken over Pomplitz business. The Sept 11 paper also gives the specification of the organ and some other details. This organ replaced a smaller Pomplitz organ, which was first built for this congregation's older building, and the older organ went to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Highlandtown. Over the decades the Schoemaker organ was altered, enlarged, moved some feet back in the gallery. Eventually, due to neglect it was removed, leaving only the facade. The church closed a few years ago. <br>Several other Schoemacher organs are extant, and through the years he connected with other individuals, but remained the main organ builder in those relationships. He appears in several newspapers, sometimes in court, being in conflict with other people in the organ business. About 12 organs, bearing his name have so far been realized.
