2020-05-05 - This was the reinstallation of the 1909 Casavant with an American console of 3 manuals vs. the original Casavant which had 4. The organ was installed behind a pipe fence facade of mostly dummy pipes. The Solo was enclosed with the Positif and made playable form the same manual. This console was later changed in a 2015-16 renovation which included a new case and new console. -James R. Stettner
2020-05-05 - Updated through online information from Stephen St.Denis. -- The 1963 placement of the organ in the chancel apse behind a façade of pipes was not optimum for sound displacement. A proposal for moving the organ forward was submitted. Following a consultation with an acoustician, it was decided to build a new organ case for a better sound dispersion throughout the cathedral. In 2014 Ateliers Bellavance, of St. Hugues Québec began a complete restoration of the organ. A new modern organ case, designed by Louis-François Grondin, was built by Ateliers Bellavance. The new terraced console, executed by carpenter Christian St-Pierre, bears a resemblance to the original console. It was decided to build a three-manual console but to allow the Solo division to be played on different manuals. Voicing was executed by Jean-Sébastien Dufour who gave back to the original stops all their finesse and their coherence. Restoration works ended in the spring of 2016.
