Notes

2020-11-24 - From the NYC AGO NYC Organ Project: Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded in 1913 to serve Lutherans in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn. From 1913 to 1917 the congregation worshipped Coney Island Avenue near Avenue C, moving in 1917 to Coney Island Avenue and Avenue G. In 1926, the present neo-Gothic church was built. The "Wicks Organ of the Month – January 1942" brochure features the organ in Trinity Church, and describes the building as follows: The building carries out the spirit of the ecclesiastical buildings of Glastonbury and is constructed of imported Holland brick, with stone trim. The wooden ceiling is entirely exposed and supported by hammer-beam trusses of Gothic design. The chancel is beautifully appointed with its high altar, reredos, dossal curtains, and triptych doors, all carrying out the symbolism of the Trinity. The carved panels on the sides of the chancel bear the shields of Trinity, our Lord, and the Twelve Apostles. The beautifully carved baptismal font, pulpit and lectern all carry out the architectural design of the church. -Jeff Scofield
