2020-12-21 - The carousel was made by Solomon Stein and Harry Goldstein in 1908. It was originally installed in a trolley terminal in Coney Island, Brooklyn, where it operated until the 1940s. It was relocated to Central Park in 1951 with a new structure surrounding it. The carousel was restored in 1990 by the Central Park Conservancy. The organ is an A. Ruth and Sohn Band Organ, Model 33; converted to Wurlitzer 150. -Paul R. Marchesano

2020-12-21 - The vintage Ruth & Sohn band organ was modified to play 150 Wurlitzer paper music rolls by Carousel Works of Mansfield, Ohio. In the 1990s the Central Park Conservancy funded new landscaping around the carousel and, once again, the restoration of the horses. More recently, the band organ was refurbished by Gavin McDonough. -Paul R. Marchesano
