Notes

2023-04-22 - When Wayne State University of Detroit purchased this this building, the University converted the church into it's Hillberry Theater. My dad's cousin was a music teacher and purchased the pipe organ and then built his home around it. The home was set on a rolling hillside in Mettamora, MI. The lower slope of the house contained the music room that Don taught students from U of M; also for organ concerts, with Don at the keyboard. Once, my dad and I visited him with a friend of mine ( who was a walking Rock and Roll encyclopedia ). The double doors opened up to the room and my friend could not believe his eyes. Words cannot describe what happened when Don sat down and J. S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue rocked the entire house. Don passed away in 1999 and I don't know what happened to the organ. Hopefully something great. -Tom Laing
