Notes

2021-02-18 - Known from descriptions published Nov 18, 1902, this likely replaced/rebuilt the John Brown organ of 1890. The specification was published May 27, 1903 after the "recent installation". "The organ will contain 26 complete registers, 11 being in the great organ, 10 in the swell organ, and 5 in the pedal organ. There will be 3 unison couplers, one sub-unison coupler and one super coupler, and 7 composition pedals. A grand crescendo pedal effecting the entire organ will be attached. The action will be electro-pneumatic and the keydesk will be movable. Delivery is fixed for April 3." -- *The Morning News *(Wilmington, Delaware) · 18 Nov 1902, Tue · Page 3. Specification published. "The organ contains 1505 pipes, but there are two pedal stops, augmented, giving 24 additional notes...The instrument has 26 registers, all running through, and weighs from eight to ten tons." -- *The News Journal* (Wilmington, Delaware) · 27 May 1903, Wed · Page 8 From the published specification, counting the celeste rank as 49 pipes, the pipes count is overstated by 61 notes. "All running through" indicated that all are full compass, so it is assumed that the celeste rank is full compasss 61 notes. If the celeste rank is 49 notes, there is a discrepancy of 61 pipes and one can also assume that a stop was left off the specification. From other examples of the builder's work, that could be a 2' Flute in the Swell. -Paul R. Marchesano
