2021-04-25 - This was the installation by Lewis & Hitchcock of a used pipe organ. The organ was a gift of Dr. J. William Greene. The organ was originally built for the Wake Forest, North Carolina residence of Dr. H. Max Smith. In 1994 it was sold to Dr. J. William Greene, then of Buffalo, NY. At that time, new keyboards and a new solid state switching system were installed. Dr. Greene apparently relocated to Lynchburg, Virginia sometime after 1994. The organ was advertised for sale on musiciansbuyline.com/classifieds for $16,000.00. The organ is free-standing and encased. The case is asymmetrical with the largest pipes of the principal and stopped flute ranks clearly visible on the left side. The Rohrflute pipes are engraved "Samuel Pierce 1880." The voicing is described as "generally soft voicing" in the ad. -Jim Stettner
