Notes

2021-10-11 - From the *1986 OHS Handbook:* "The organ still stands in the church, but sadly altered, having been rebuilt on electric chests some years ago, by the Stannke Organ Co. of Rock Island, Illinois. Except for the pipes remaining in the case, the Principal 16' is gone, as is the Trumpet 8'. However, the instrument can still give a good account of itself, especially because of the spectacular acoustics (which commanded unfavorable attention in 1886; one writer complained that A serious disadvantage of the building is that the voice of a spe11ker resounds too strongly, making a sermon difficult to understand ....) The Dolce 8' has capped basses; the Flöte d'Amour 4' is of open metal with 12 open wood basses. The Salicional 8', of high tin content, has an octave of capped zinc basses; the Harmonic Flöte 4' is of open metal harmonic pipes from MC with open wood basses, and the set is inscribed 'J.G.P. + S./W. + H.' " Current status: The Church of St. John the Baptist is an historic church building located in Burlington, Iowa, United States. Together with St. Paul's Church in Burlington and St Mary's Church in West Burlington it forms Divine Mercy parish, which is a part of the Diocese of Davenport. -Paul R. Marchesano
