2021-10-20 - Edward Swearingen was a noted aviation pioneer who had built two pipe organs for his home and serviced some other pipe organs. Swearingen Aviation was a very successful company that was responsible for a number of profitable aircraft types, including the popular Merlin corporate aircraft and the successful 19-passenger commuter plane, the Swearingen Metro. He sold his company in 1972 to Fairchild. -Jeff Scofield

2021-10-20 - From the announcement in the August 1967 issue of THE DIAPASON: A 65-rank, four-manual organ was designed and built by Edward S. Swearingen, president of an aircraft company, for St. Luke's Episcopal Church, San Antonio, Tex. Mr. Swearingen had previously built two organs for his home and serviced several others, but the St. Luke's instrument was his first commercial instrument. The late Dr. Marshall Bidwell was consultant in the making of the final design. -Jeff Scofield
