2021-10-26 - From the December 1966 issue of THE DIAPASON: The Tellers Organ Co. will install a new organ for the Zion Baptist Church, Philadelphia, Pa. in the sum· mer of 1967. This is one of the large Philadelphia churches which has been a leader in urban renewal and is well known for the development of the Opportunities Industrialization Center. This movement, with Centers throughout the United States, is now spreading abroad under the guidance of Dr. Leon Howard Sullivan, pastor of Zion Church. The organist, Florence B. Gordon, consulted with Howard S. Okie, Jr. in the tonal design typical of Tellers' reo strained contemporary work. To take full advantage of the chancel and nave tone.openings, both expression chamb· ers will feature double expression selectively controlled by the organist, allowing virtually unimpeded speech to supplement the exposed great division. -Jeff Scofield
