2021-10-27 - Identified though online information from Jayson R. Engquist [amended] -- This building was originally built as Fowler M. E. Church in 1894, and significantly enlarged in 1906. In about 1912 they merged with the Hennepin Avenue (now United) Methodist Church and the AME building was sold to the Scottish Rite (Masonic Lodge) members. It is believed whatever organ was originally in the Fowler M.E. church remained for many years. Façade pipes are still extant in the balcony choir loft. The Scottish Rite/Masonic Center has been in this location since 1913 and is still there. Currently (as of 2020) there is an Allen electronic sitting in the Scottish Rite choir balcony (with several speakers). Inside the pipe chamber is a stored/ donated pipe organ of unknown origin from a Masonic member from northern Minnesota, which was in his residence for some years. Future plans include installing this pipe organ, with additions and modifications. The Scottish Rite leadership (as of 2020) are in conversations with several American organ builders to gather information. The Scottish Rite (seating about 150) also contains a second “sanctuary” (original building of the AME church before they added on) and is used for smaller ceremonies. It contains another electronic instrument. The main Scottish Rite sanctuary seats 650. -Jim Stettner
