Notes

2022-03-17 - The builder is named in an article on the organ in the *Williamsport (PA) Daily Gazette and Bulletin*, February 10, 1877: "A very fair audience assembled in the Pine Street M. E. church, last evening, to listen to the new pipe organ and the singing of Mr. C. Linn Herrick. The organ was built and placed in the church by Mr. G. Sommer, late of Baltimore, but now permanently located in Williamsport, it is not large either as to the space occupied, or as to the number of stops, but in quantity of tone it is amply sufficient for all the requirements of the congregation, and all who listened to it expressed themselves as delighted with its tone, which is rich, clear and brilliant. . . . The case is made of black walnut in the Gothic style of architecture, having a width of nine feet, a depth of five and a half feet, and a front height of fourteen feet; the display pipes are beautifully decorated in gold and colors and are in keeping with the other parts of the organ."
