2022-03-30 - The organ was built at a cost of more than $6,000. The organ was sold to St. Stephen's Episcopal Mission in 1898 for $2,500. The *Evening Telegraph *of 12 November 1898 reported that "Mr. Frederick Deming Deming a wealthy citizen of Litchfield, Conn., had a son who was a musical prodigy and the father was willing to spend almost any sum to advance the boy's art or his happiness. Ten years ago he gave the Roosevelt Company an order to build this organ for his private residence... The young man died and there was gathered about the organ a sentiment that bound the parents to it...Lately, however, they have decided that the beautiful instrument should not remain closed, giving neither pleasure nor inspiration to anyone, and have concluded to sell it and use the money for some memorial purpose..." -- information from *1998 OHS Handbook* -Paul R.
