Notes

2022-04-21 - The *Paxton Daily Record*, March 30, 1903, reported the dedicatory services of "the new M.E. church . . . yesterday." On the organ, the article stated: "The choir and organ loft is back of the pulpit, is 16x18 feet, and will accommodate 25 or more persons. The organ loft is finished in a beautiful arch, lighted by a row of frosted glass electric bulbs. The organ is a two manual instrument having 20 stops besides mechanical stops and couplers, 1,018 pipes, and pedal bass, and is pumped by a water motor. It was built by the Barckhoff Organ Co., of Pomeroy, Ohio, and is a very fine instrument." The history webpage of the church states that the cornerstone of the building was laid on August 20, 1902, and the new church was dedicated on March 23, 1903, but March 29, a Sunday, as reported in the newspaper article, seems a more plausible date for the dedication. The history page also states, "The sanctuary still appears much as it did in 1903, with the exception of the choir area. Decorating changes have occurred over the years, and the organ has been replaced several times." No information is given about any of the organs. Sources: "The New M. E.
