2022-09-29 - It seems likely that there was no pipe organ in the building prior to Installation of the present Instrument, which was built originally for the First Baptist Church of Augusta, Maine, and moved to Monmouth in 1918 or 1919. "In 1974, Mrs. Elsie Howard left a large sum of money to the United Church, as an organ fund in memory of Elsie and Howard Howland. It Is planned that the Interest on this money be used for the maintenance of the Ryder tracker organ." Notes 1-12 of the Dulciana 8' are of stopped wood, as are the basses of the Keraulophon 8'. The basses of the Violin Diapason 8' are unenclosed and full-length. The Oboe [TC) 8' and Bassoon 8' pipes are of recent manufacture. The Uni. Flute 8' in the Pedal Is of open wood, and shares a 2-stop slider chest with the Sub Bass 16 '. The original double-rise reservoir was replaced some years ago with a smaller regulator. -- *1992 OHS Handbook* -Paul R. Marchesano
