Notes

2022-07-03 - This entry represents what is believed to have been the first installation of a new organ. From Wikipedia,* "The congregation was established in about 1845 as a mission of the Catholic parish of Savannah in Georgia, and the first church building was constructed by 1847. Immaculate Conception was designated its own parish in 1854, but the original building was destroyed by Union forces during the American Civil War. "* In a YouTube video tour of the church interior hosted by Fr. Ed Murphy, he quotes a Jacksonville historian Thomas Frederick Davis as saying,* "The soldiers burst open the doors and commenced sacking it of everything of value. The organ was, in a moment, torn to strips and almost every soldier who came out seemed to be celebrating the occasion by blowing an organ pipe."* https://youtu.be/EAypzs1Okk0 -Jim Stettner
