Notes

2022-07-27 - Original date of installation unknown, enlarged in 1926 based on new specifications worked up by Dr. T. Tertius Noble. The instrument was originally installed in the basement beneath the stairs of the Great Hall, but was removed and relocated to the attic during the 1926 rebuild. The project was helmed by Lloyd Davey, who "selected eleven of the best men in the factory" to complete the work. Specifications for the enlarged organ have not yet been located, but it is known to have included a Diaphone, Bassoon, Diapason Phonon, Tuba, three Strings of pure Tin, two flutes, and two mixtures. Welte-Mignon also furnished a new harp, adjustable combination action, new relays, and a new blower. Sadly, Martin Hall burned to the ground on November 8th, 1932 and the organ was entirely destroyed. -Peter Rudewicz

2023-01-20 - The original Welte organ at Martin Hall was a three-manual instrument installed c.1922. The console was placed against one wall of the great hall (see photographs) and included the roll player. The stoplist given here and the picture of the four-manual console are actually from the 1926 rebuilding (see Rollin Smith's book "Pipe Organs of the Rich and Fa ous.") The four-manual console did not include a roll playing mechansim, as this was placed in a wall panel adjacent to the console. -Jim Lewis
