2022-10-31 - Penciled on the back of the music-rack panel are the words, Wm. I-I. Davis / Maker / 67 Macdougal St. / New York. The organ's early whereabouts are not known. It was placed in Haddam Neck Congregational Church, East Hampton, Conn., c. 1 876. In 1 955 the organ, without its case, was brought to Manassas, and in August of that year it was set up in the former Fisher hardware store. On February 1 , 1 958, Helen Howell Williams of Lynchburg, Va., played a recital there before a black-tie audience. In the early hours of Washington's Birthday 1 959, "Willie" barely escaped destruction by fire but survived, having been considerably water soaked. Last summer "Willie" was moved to Ben Faidley's place in McLean and has j ust earler this month been brought to the new Organ House and set up temporarily. -- *1964 OHS Handbook* -Paul R.
