2023-04-14 - The November 1934 issue of *The Diapason* reported that the church had ordered the organ: St Anne’s Catholic Church at Wellington, New Zealand, has ordered a two-manual organ from George Kilgen & Son, Inc., of St. Louis. The organ will be completely “straight” in design and will be installed in the choir gallery at the rear, screened by a case of Gothic design. The pastor of the church is the Rev. John Kelly. The organist is Leonard McCarthy. Mr. McCarthy is on his way to the United States to confer with the Kilgen representatives and expects to return on the same boat with the instrument to play the dedication recital. The *Wellington Evening Post*, April 27, 1935, reported the solemn blessing and dedication of the new organ on "Easter Sunday afternoon" [April 21]. "Constructed at the organ building works of George Kilgen and Sons, [*sic*] St. Louis, the new organ represents the most modern electric instrument of its kind, and embodies features which are unique in New Zealand church organs." The article singled out for special notice the advantages of the detached console, the use of "stop keys above the keyboards" instead of the "conventional type of draw knob stop controls," the "improved type" of combination pistons, and the crescendo pedal. It concluded, "The voicing of the pipes throughout and the general tone of the organ are rich and mellow, while the handsome dark oak case with its two banks of gold bronze display pipes completes a pleasing exterior to a fine instrument."
