2023-05-10 - From *The Winnipeg Tribune* (August 23, 1890): "An esteemed correspondent has sent the writer an account of a fine new organ just erected in the Brunswick Street Methodist Church, Halifax, Nova Scotia. There are 30 reputed stops, but as usual only 15 real stops, the others being purely mechanical. The one thing about it striking one as unusual is the "open diapason." This is registered as a single stop, but really containing five. By the use of overtones it combines principal, mixture, twelfth, fifteenth, and open diapason. It would be interesting to organists to know how these could be used singly. It is very easy to combine them, but not so the other way. These stops may be styled furniture stops, that is they give color and body to the others, and a brilliancy not obtained by the ordinary stops. Another unusual feature is three ranks of cornet pipes and a large trumpet stop. These look splendid on paper, but in this climate these stops would require tuning once a week, or they will be practically useless. Roosevelt, of New York, is the builder. -Andrew Henderson
