Notes

2023-05-27 - From the *Owen Sound Daily Sun-Times* (January 30, 1928): "At the request of the Organ Committee, Mr. Arthur Clements, organist of St. George's Anglican Church, this city, and whose artistry is well known here, drew up the plans and specifications, after which the order was placed, and the committee is satisfied that the work carried out by The Woodstock Pipe Organ Builders, Limited, which built the organ, is satisfactory in every way ... The action being electro-pneumatic ensures the promptness of speech which is so essential in a good organ. The instrument occupies the whole width of the chancel, and is completed with a case of quarter cut oak, with the front pipes decorated in plain gold bronze. The console is of English type, being detached with draw knob jambs at an angle of 45 degrees. Only the very best of materials have been used with the latest devices for the convenience of the player. The organ contains 1,216 pipes, many of which are very beautiful in tone and it stands in the best of taste as a most worthy effort on the part of the congregation of St. Andrew's Church ..." From the *Owen Sound Daily Sun-Times* (March 4, 1936): "Important changes and additions to the pipe organ in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church are to be made at once, according to an announcement made by the officials of that congregation. Through the generosity of Mrs. F. W. Barrett, who has taken a deep interest in St. Andrew's congregation and the work of the church generally these changes are possible, and when the work is completed it will rank among the finest pipe organs in Owen Sound. The contract has already been awarded to the Woodstock Organ Builders Limited, and it is expected the installation will be complete by April 1st. Mrs. Barrett is making the donation as a memorial to her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wightman. The changes include the addition to the organ of the Vox Humana, the Piccolo, the Harp and the Chimes, adding greatly to the many fine quatlities already possessed by this fine organ." -Andrew Henderson
