2023-06-06 - Franklin Legge organ was used for the first time in William Street Baptist Church on Sunday, October 2, 1924, with Mrs. Franklin Legge, wife of C. Franklin Legge, as the soloist. On the following Tuesday evening, Mr. Legge gave a recital on the organ. The organ cost $5,200 to install. (pg. 28) In 1915-1917, Central Baptist Church (in the former Primitive Methodist Church at the corner of Centre Street and Wellington Street) amalgamated with William Street Baptist Church to form Chatham Baptist Church in the William Street building. 2023-06-06 - Chatham Baptist Church (the name adopted by William Street Baptist Church, after an amalgamation with Central Baptist Church in 1915-1917) closed on Dec. 31, 2013. The building was sold and converted in 2014-2015 into a wedding and special events venue known as *The Kent 1874* in reference to the year in which the church was constructed.
