Notes

2023-06-06 - According to the *Edmonton Journal* (May 14, 1942): "Converted from theatre to church us, a pipe organ that once did duty in the Empress Theatre, but was retired from use about 12 years ago, was dedicated for worship purposes at McDonald Baptist Church in a special service Wednesday night ... removal of the organ from the theatre, marking and numbering of the parts, and reassembling at the churhc have been under way for the past three months. The work has been done voluntarily by members of the congregation under supervision of the mechanically-minded minister, Rev. H. Stibbards. When the rebuilding was completed, tuning was done by Franklin Legge, of the well-known Toronto organ firm, who was in the city at the time. Practically the only new parts found necessary in the process of rebuilding the organ were some 500 pieces of leather for the bellows and primary valves. Replacing of these and the reconstruction project as a whole have been pronounced well done. The instrument is a two-manual of American make. It has been fitted into an organ loft designed for such purposes when the church was built." The church amalgamated with Highlands Baptist Church in 1967, with various denominations using the building since. The organ appears to have been removed. -Andrew Henderson
