Notes

2023-07-16 - From Charleston Daily Churier, Charleston SC, June 30, 1854, but first published in the New York Herald, June 24, 1864. LARGE ORGAN.- A first class organ has lately been erected in St. Stephens (Catholic) Church, 28th street, built by Mr. Henry Erben, of this City. The following are its dimensions: 45 feet high, 27 feet wide, and 16 feet deep. It has three rows of keys, two and a half octaves of pedals, 48 stops, and nearly 2500 pipes. It was publicly exhibited on Friday evening to a very large audience, the church being crowded to its fullest extent. .... The pedal playing of Mr. Morgan, who has lately arrived from London , is no doubt superior to anything ever before heard in this country. The price of the organ was $7,000 -Steven Bartley
