2023-08-21 - *Baltimore Sun* July 24, 1856, pg. 1 …..The Vestry of Mount Calvary Church have also contracted with the firm [Pomplitz] for the building an organ, the case of which, in full Gothic Style, will not be surpassed in appearance by any similar instrument. It will be of considerable height, and consist of great, swell and pedal organs, containing 24 stops and 953 pipes. If finished on time, this instrument will be exhibited at the coming display of the Maryland Institute. Among its costly and brilliant stops will be the hautboy, cornet, trumpet, flute, clarionet, violin and violencello. Since the improvement of the church, a new organ was considered highly necessary *Baltimore Sun* Nov. 22, 1856: Trial of a Church Organ- Wednesday evening last was set apart by the vestry of Mount Calvary Protest Episcopal Church for the purpose of trying the new organ recently put up in the choir gallery of that church, by Messrs. Pomplitz & Rodewald, an enterprising firm of this city. The works of this instrument are enclosed in a case of Corinthian architecture, finished in imitation rosewood. Measuring 23 feet in height, 12 feet in width, and 12 feet in depth. It contains two rows of keys, great swell and pedal organs.
