2023-08-22 - Steps away from P.D. Walsh’s Country Store is The Center on Main at 103 Main Street. A former Methodist Church rebuilt after a fire destroyed it in 1900, The Center is now the current home of The Falls Village Children’s Theater. When the Church was re-built after the fire, beautiful Tiffany windows were installed which you can still see today. -- "Falls Village/Canaan historic homes are part of annual house tour", *The Register Citizen*, Nov. 27, 2013 The first Methodist sermon preached in what is now the town of North Canaan was given in 1786 at the Lawrence Tavern (the Isaac Lawrence House on Elm Street). A Methodist church was erected in 1816 and remained in use until the current Canaan United Methodist Church was erected in 1868-1873. It is located at 2 Church Street, at the west end of Main Street where it divides into Church and West Main Streets. The original church building was sold to a farmer. The large stained glass window at the front of the church was installed in 1905. The church merged with the Falls Village Methodist Church in 1966. 2023-08-22 - Known from a report by Barbara Owen in The Tracker, "NEW ENGLAND PILGRIMAGE", 1:, p7. "Of interest was the finding of an 1873 organ labeled STEER & TURNER in the Methodist Church of Falls Village, Conn. A trip to Waterbury in search of what were reported to be a Hook and a Johnson of the '50s proved fruitless, as we could not find anyone to let us into the church supposed to have the Johnson, and the Hook was disposed of a few years ago: displaced by a 'you-know-what'. This was a second-hand organ and its original home and opus number are not known." -Paul R. Marchesano
