2024-03-14 - The Wurlitzer Theater Organ, installed in 1918, is believed to be Wurlitzer Opus 193 “style 4”. According to records, the blower serial number matches that of the Spencer Blower records database, indicating that the organ was delivered to the "Codman Sq Theatre", which was the name of this area in Dorchester. There have been rumors that the organ was removed and replaced with a smaller model around the early 1920s. However, based on the evidence of the full organ being intact and its current location, it is unlikely that this happened. Therefore, it is my opinion that this is the original 1918 Wurlitzer Theatre organ of the Strand Theatre. -Dan Rousseau
2024-11-21 - The reference in "Notes" by Dan Rousseau stating that this location was once referred to as Codman Square is inaccurate and should be corrected. While there was a Codman Square Theatre with a Wurlitzer, it was in Codman Square, a completely different neighborhood. To my understanding, what was referenced by the Wurlitzer & Spencer Turbine was either a clerical error, or the result of one organ needing to be delivered sooner to its neighboring theatre. Please note that both the Codman Square Theatre and the Strand were under construction at the same time with the Strand's completion overtaking that of the Codman Square. It is believed that Wurlitzer rerouted the order from the Codman to the Strand in order to expedite delivery to the first theatre to be completed.
