Notes

2024-03-16 - For the present, existence of this organ is known only through the church history, which states that a memorial window was given in memory of Esther Adsit who headed the committee that raised money for the pipe organ and bells--date unknown. The memorial window to Esther was given in 1898. The church building was consecrated in 1860 on land given by the Adsit family. Nothing further is known about the organ. At the time of the organ installation, the town was known as Hornellsville. In 1957, the church was gutted by fire, the firemen fighting the fire through holes in the roof rather than by destroying the Tiffany windows. It is not known what organ was destroyed at that time, only that an historic pipe organ was lost. The rebuilt sanctuary contained a new two-manual e-p organ in a very cramped chamber, possibly by Schantz. Also at this time, the historic brick church was 'modernized' with the overlayment of a stone veneer and spire. -Scot Huntington
