Notes

2024-05-23 - This instrument was originally built for Central Congregational in Boston. When Central merged with First Presbyterian to form Church of the Covenant, which installed a Welte organ in 1929. This organ was then moved to St. Charles Borromeo in Waltham and installed in the rear gallery. In the 1980s it was moved by the Lahaise Bros. to the front of St. Charles as part of a big interior renovation. Eric Anderson reports that the pipework was intact and complete, but the chests and console were 1950's supply house type, and everything worked. The church was closed about 10 years ago and attempts to save/relocate the organ were attempted, but success is unknown. In 2022 development began on the site and the church is being turned into condominiums. Recent pictures show that the organ is gone, fate unknown. -Andrew Scanlon
