2024-09-17 - "Large" instrument of 24 stops and 1800 pipes by Buffington. The organ was renovated in 1880 by Samuel Bohler, adding 5 new stops, "greatly increasing the power of the bass...". In 1893 a "new" organ by John Brown was installed, stoplist published. It is likely that some of the Buffington pipework and/or case remained with the rebuilds until Austin installed its Opus 411 in 1913. See DOCUMENTS tab for several news articles. -Paul R. Marchesano
2024-09-17 - Apparently the organ (case remained in gallery?) was gifted to Memorial Presbyterian Church on South Queen Street: "Among the improvements made were removal of the front entrance and vestibule. The entrance to the church is on the south aide of the church short distance from the street. In the occupied formerly by the vestibule been placed the organ presented to church by the First Presbyterian church. The organ has been rebuilt by Kirk Johnson & Co. New pews, made by the Lancaster Planing Mill company, have been put in church." -- Intelligencer Journal (Lancaster, PA), Mon, Aug 21, 1893 · Page 1 -Paul R. Marchesano
