2024-12-16 - This entry represents the installation of a new organ. Identified through online information from Andrew Henderson (December 16, 2024): From the Buffalo Commercial Advertiser (April 12, 1862): "New organ at the Universalist Church. Mr. G. House, of this city, has just completed a new organ for the First Universalist Church on Washington Street, which was ordered and paid for by the ladies of the church. It is valued at $1,500, and contains twenty-four draw stops, as follows ... The case is built in Norman style, of fine imitation of rosewood, by J. Pinckney. It is about eleven feet wide, sixteen feet high, and seven feet deep, with seventeen gilt speaking pipes in front. Compass of organ: CC 8 ft. to G, fifty-six notes. Pedals CCC, 16 ft. to G, twenty notes. The organ is already placed in the church, and we had the pleasure of hearing it yesterday afternoon, Mr. Everett Baker being the performer. Under his touch, its clear, rich, deep tones, mingling in a medley of beautiful airs, were splendidly developed, and both the organist and the instrument earned golden opinions from all who listened. The former understood the latter perfectly, and handled it with masterly skill. The organ is a credit to the builder, who has already attained a well-won reputation, and will be a joy for many years to the congregation and the church." -Andrew Henderson

2024-12-20 - Subsequent locations were: Main & Huron (1866), North & Mariner (1892), and Lafayette & Hoyt (in 1911). The House was likely relocated to the Main & Huron edifice as it was only 4 years old. Subsequent relocations are unknown. The congregation later merged with the Unitarian Church in 1953. -Jim Stettner
